Part-Time and Temporary; Non-Exempt

 

General Responsibilities

 

This position is responsible for preparing, cooking and serving food items in compliance with Norfolk Public Schools, USDA, local, state and federal policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and guidelines; in a school cafeteria.

 

Education and Experience

 

One year of customer service experience is preferred; to include some experience in food service or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Current Food Handler’s card issued by the Norfolk Health Department preferred, but not required for job consideration.

 

Essential Job Functions

• Ensures the proper cleaning and sanitizing of all equipment, dishes and cooking utensils.
• Cooks/prepares food to meet projected meal requirements.
• Responsible for serving a large quantity of meals within specified time frames.
• Responsible for professionally communicating with students and staff. Maintains strong customer service focus.
• Assists in promoting and maintaining integrity of the school nutrition services program.
• Arranges food and beverage items (e.g. placing in steam tables, displaying, filing racks, transport food carts to classrooms, etc.) for students and staff.
• Requires loading and unloading of food products.
• Responsible for operating a cash register; to include balancing a cash drawer.
• May maintain stationary position on the serving line during specified time frames.
• Works in hot and cold environments
• Maintains and inventories accurate accounts of meals served in the required categories.
• Operates a dishwasher; ensures that trays are properly washed and sanitized and returned to the serving line.
• Cleans tables; sweeps and mops kitchen floors; cleans kitchen appliances.
• Frequently moves and lifts 25 pound boxes and crates. Loads and unloads carts as assigned.
• Performs additional duties as required or assigned.
