Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.
- In possession of Virginia teacher licensure with library media endorsement.
- Above-average amount of walking, bending, standing, stooping, and lifting in the library media center and in classrooms.
- Tuberculin skin test certifying the individual is free of contagious tuberculosis.
- Motivate and guide students in the development of reading, listening, thinking, and viewing competencies and fosters an appreciation for literature.
- Create and maintain an environment conducive to learning.
- Maintain professional competence through in-service educational activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
- Able to communicate effectively with students, staff, administration, and/or the general public for the purposes of interpreting, promoting, and expanding the school library media program.
- Able to provide direct assistance to faculty and students in the teaching/learning process.
- Able to implement policies and procedures for effective and efficient acquisition, cataloging, accessing, and maintaining equipment and resources. Able to apply basic principles of evaluation and select of print and non-print resources and equipment to support instructional practice.
- Build and maintain a resource collection that includes both internal holdings and external information sources in support of educational objectives and goals.
- Ability to deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports and effectively interact with pupils, teachers, parents, administrators, and classified personnel.
- Knowledge of classical and current children’s and/or young adult literature.
- Demonstrate considerable knowledge of the principles and methodologies of effective teaching.
- Able to help faculty and students design and produce resources to use in the teaching/learning process.
- Able to use electronic information sources.
- Able to use computers for library management and communication.
Nature of Position
- Teaching work performed in a library media center and other instructional areas within a school.
- Creates an environment whereby students and staff are effective users of ideas and information by providing intellectual and physical access to information.
- Develops, translates, and implements the goals and policies of the library media center.
- Makes resources available to students and teachers through a systematically developed collection within the school and through access to resources outside the school.
- Selects and requisitions materials and equipment.
- Provides access to the media center collection through an accurate and efficient management system.
- Designs and administers the library media center budget in cooperation with the building administrator and maintains accurate business records.
- On a flexible basis, schedules activities within the library media center to facilitate instruction.
- Develops and implements policies and procedures which ensure access to information.
- Provides assistance to students in identifying, locating, and interpreting information housed in and outside the library media center.
- In partnership with the classroom teacher, plans, provides, and evaluates instruction in information access and use as an integral part of the content and objectives of the curriculum.
- Informs teachers, students, and administrators about new equipment, materials, and services that meet their information needs.
- Provides assistance to the professional staff in using information resources, acquiring and assessing instructional materials, and incorporating information skills into the classroom curriculum.
- Provides assistance to students and staff in use of production equipment and techniques.
In addition to the base salary listed below, this position is eligible for an advanced degree stipend.

Master's Degree: $3,500/Year
Master's Degree + 30 Hours: $5,400/Year
Doctoral Degree: $7,800/Year |
