Full-Time and Permanent; 7.33 Hours/Day; 220 Days/Year; 11 Months/Year

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in school social work.
  • Tuberculin skin test certifying that the individual is free of contagious tuberculosis.
  • Eligible for, or in possession of, licensure by the Virginia State Board of Education.
  • In possession of a valid driver’s license, car insurance, and the use of the employee’s reliable transportation.
  • Knowledge of general education curriculum and practices.
  • Knowledge of social work/casework and associated services.
  • Knowledge and know-how of interviewing parents and other stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of special education rules, regulations, and processes.
  • Ability to problem-solve.
  • Ability to plan and organize.
  • In possession of effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Respect for student confidentiality.

Nature of Position

  • Serves as the case manager during the special education comprehensive evaluation process.
  • Serves on the child study team.
  • Serves on the eligibility committee.
  • Conducts the socio-cultural evaluation and adaptive behavior assessment.
  • Meets with parents to review IEPs.
  • Makes home visits to gather any needed data and to obtain parental signatures.
  • Conducts parenting groups and training.
  • Serves on the manifestation hearing committee.
  • Makes referrals to appropriate agencies for assistance to students (e.g., courts, health and mental health agencies, CAT, social services, etc.).
  • Conducts student groups.
  • Attends staff meetings when required.
  • May come in contact with questionable people because of the many home visits that are made.
  • May come in contact with some communicable diseases (colds, flu, etc.).
  • This work involves physical effort encountered in normal, everyday activities, including walking, carrying, stair climbing, and some lifting.
  • Some work is completed outside of normal working hours because of parents’ working hours.

 

In addition to the base salary listed below, this position is eligible for an advanced degree stipend, and an extended day stipend.

 

Educational Stipend Details (Conditions Apply)

Master's Degree: $3,500/Year

Master's Degree + 30 Hours: $5,400/Year

Doctoral Degree: $7,800/Year

 

Extended Day Stipend Details

 

$84.46/pay period
