DEFINITION

 

This is technical and analytical work involved in maintaining capital assets processing and  travel reimbursements.  An employee in this class is responsible for capital asset accounting and preparing travel reimbursements. .  The work involves following Generally Accepted Accounting Principles procedures in compiling information on type, location, acquisition, and disposition of  capital assets in the MUNIS capital asset system, and reconciling the capital asset subsidiary ledger to the general ledger, and ensuring travel reimbursements comply with the NPS employee travel procedures.

 

SUPERVISION

 

Under the general supervision of the Senior Director of Accounting, and direct supervision of the General Accounting Manager, the incumbent proceeds with considerable independence in applying established procedures in achievement of assigned work, referring new and unusual problems and questions to supervisors for assistance.

 

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

 

This is journey level work in capital asset reporting and travel reimbursement compliance and is distinguished from other classes by the requirement for knowledge of specialized accounting, NPS employee travel policies and procedures.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (May not include all essential functions performed.)

 

Enters data into the capital asset control system.

 

Implements capital asset procedures by assigning numbers to new equipment from receiving reports, forwarding copies to appropriate personnel, and maintaining data in the MUNIS financial system.

 

Forwards and receives equipment survey forms to delete obsolete equipment; updates MUNIS financial system; forwards disposition reports to appropriate personnel.

 

Implements equipment transfer procedures by forwarding and receiving proper forms to appropriate personnel.

 

Processes employee travel reimbursement requests.

 

Performs capital asset audits at every school, auxiliary and central administration location.

 

Other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY

 

Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.

 

Proficient math skills and ability to perform computations quickly and accurately.

 

Proficient with automated financial systems.

 

Good knowledge of capital asset accounting procedures and practices.

 

Good knowledge of modern office procedures and practices.

 

Ability to compose routine memorandums and letters.

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

 

Possession of an associate’s degree in accounting or related field or any equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the above noted knowledge, skill, and ability.  Requires a minimum of 5 years of work experience.
