Note: Current employees cannot receive pay for any summer school work until after their contract for their work days for the current school year have expired. Current employees with questions about their last work day should contact their HR Generalist for confirmation.

  

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must possess an active teaching license issued by the Virginia Department of Education in the desired content area.
  • Must provide a copy of most recent teaching evaluation with effective or higher ratings.
  • Current administrator must complete the electronic reference form.  

Nature of Position

 

The school-based speech-language pathologist remediates, improves, and alleviates student communication deficits within the educational environment through both special education and related services. Specially designed instruction addressing speech and language impairments are provided through a variety of service delivery models in the student’s least restrictive environment.  Services may be individual or small group based.

 

Examples of Duties

 

The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks:

  • Implements Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with speech/language impairments.
  • Provides speech/language therapy to students with various disabilities through related services as outlined in Individualized Education Plans.
  • Employs a continuum of service delivery models in the least restrictive environment.
  • Works collaboratively with case managers, special education staff, and other related service personnel to promote language-based learning across all contexts.
  • Develops and presents lessons to individual students, small groups, and large groups in both special and general education classrooms.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • In-depth knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching.
  • Ability to interact effectively with students, staff, administrators, parents, and community.

Hazards/Unusual Demands

  • Work involves exposure to normal everyday hazards encountered in a school.
  • Work is performed in a classroom and involves no unusual demands.
