Note: Current employees cannot receive pay for any summer school work until after their contract for their work days for the current school year have expired. Current employees with questions about their last work day should contact their HR Generalist for confirmation.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must possess an active license issued by the Virginia Department of Education with an endorsement in administration and supervision.
  • Must provide a copy of most recent teaching evaluation with effective or higher ratings.
  • Current administrator must complete the electronic reference form.
  • Must have at least 4 years of prior teaching experience.

Nature of Position

 

The Center Leader works collaboratively with the building principal, assistant principal, program coordinators, and executive directors to provide instructional and organizational leadership for the summer program. The work involves assigned responsibilities in developing and implementing a sound instructional program, supervising and evaluating the performance of staff members, maintaining the school facility, and serving as liaison between the school and community. Work is reviewed and evaluated in terms of effectiveness of programs and efficient operation of the facility.

 

Examples of Duties

 

The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks:

  • Overall supervision of the summer school program at the assigned summer school site including but not necessarily limited to asynchronous virtual, synchronous virtual, and in person instruction.
  • Works under the leadership of school administration to make recommendations for summer school staff hiring.
  • Supervises all staff hired for the summer school program.
  • Monitors student attendance and provides interventions to support student success.
  • Coordinates and maintains a system of pupil and staff attendance.
  • Coordinates and supervises operational and support services activities such as student transportation, field trip schedules, student activities, fire emergency procedures and drills, community use of the building, and building maintenance.
  • As directed, orders and is responsible for the distribution of technology, textbooks, and supplies.
  • Carries out a variety of administrative responsibilities including budget and fiscal procedures, due process disciplinary procedures, and community relations.
  • Assists in the preparation of a variety of reports, forms, and surveys and in the maintenance of inventory and other records.
  • Participates in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating instructional programs and materials.
  • Assists in evaluating and training of faculty and other staff.
  • Communicates with parents on instructional and behavioral issues.
  • Participates in and supervises student activities and oversees the maintenance of standards concerning student discipline, health, safety, and general welfare.
  • Coordinates with student’s home school to better support student achievement when necessary.

  • In-depth knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching and learning.
  • Ability to interact effectively with students, staff, administrators, parents, and community.
  • Effectively able to communicate via written and oral methods.
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to prepare program schedules in collaboration with the building principal.

Hazards/Unusual Demands

  • Work involves exposure to normal everyday hazards encountered in a school.
  • Work is performed in a classroom and involves no unusual demands.
