Full-Time and Permanent; Exempt; 7.33 Hours/Day; 200 Days/Year; 10 Months/Year

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with an endorsement in early education (NK-4), middle education (4- 8), or secondary education (8-12), and ESL
  • Experience in working with English Learners (ELs)and families at the building
  • Tuberculin skin test certifying that the individual is free of contagious
  • In-depth knowledge of WIDA standards and assessments, and VDOE guidelines for Title III compliance as it relates to English Learners
  • Strong understanding of enrollment and testing guidelines for
  • Strong written and oral communication
  • Considerable knowledge of the principles and methodologies of effective teaching to English language learners and classroom management.
  • Ability to interact well with ESL teachers, content and/or grade level teachers, administrators, EL students and
  • Knowledgeable in the use of personal computers and web-based collaborative platforms and applications (i.e. Microsoft 365 apps, Google classroom, etc.)

Nature of Position

 

The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks:

  • Provides instruction to English Learners at different grade levels with varying levels of English proficiency within the same
  • Works in collaboration with classroom teachers of English Learners and supports them by providing/modeling strategies and sharing resources to support them in making content accessible to ELs
  • Motivates each student to develop the skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in order to promote the student’s growth in English language
  • Teaches grade level academic language content in addition to specific skills in English language (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) to English Learners
  • Provides individual or small group instruction to differentiate the curriculum to meet the needs of each EL
  • Teaches in a variety of settings – push-in, pull out, small group, and stand-alone class setting.
  • Encourages students to think independently and to express original
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior for an orderly, productive learning
  • Evaluates each ESL student’s progress in English skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing).
  • Utilizes various forms of data to inform, adjust, refine, and differentiate
  • Administers the English language proficiency assessment (ACCESS for ELLs © and the WiDA Screener) and ensures the appropriate placement of students who are identified as English Learners.
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service educational activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth
  • Maintains on-going communication with parents, school counselors, and classroom teachers regarding the progress of
  • Supervises in- and out-of-classroom activities during the assigned
  • Work is performed in and sometimes outside of a classroom and required no unusual
  • Advocates for the rights of English Learners when necessary
