Full-Time and Permanent; 7.33 Hours/Day; 210 Days/Year; 10.5 Months/Year

 

DEFINITION:

This is a teaching position that is performed within the classroom and computer lab environment. The teacher would be responsible for implementing a sound instructional program that focuses on programming, desktop systems, basic server systems, network design, implementation and management. The teacher would also implement an instructional program with a focus on computer programming concepts, procedures, and fundamentals; interactive multimedia applications; and web technology.

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Teaches knowledge and skills in computer programming concepts with various programming languages (Java, Python, C++ etc.), computer network software operations, and information technology fundamentals, utilizing course information approved by appropriate authorities.
  • Develops lesson plans and organizes daily classes so that demonstration, instruction and practice can be completed within the allotted time.
  • Cultivates student knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to be successful in all post-secondary options.
  • Train students in use, care and safe operation of all related IT equipment. Selects, evaluates and requisitions books, instructional aids and supplies, and IT equipment. Maintains required inventory records.
  • Establishes and maintains productive relationships with area businesses, industries, higher education, and agencies by organizing an advisory committee for the program.
  • Works with the administration to develop partnerships for work-based learning experiences.
  • Coordinates high-quality work-based learning (WBL) experiences related to course content and students’ career goals and/or interests. Support the success of all students in postsecondary education, careers, and civic life.
  • Instruct students in, and co-advises a chapter of, the Future Business Leaders of America (Career and Technical Student Organizations - CTSOs) within the class/school and encourages student participation in appropriate local, regional, state, and national association activities.
  • Continues professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Maintains required contact with business community to stay current on job entry requirements and business technology, methods and equipment and student job placement, where appropriate.
  • Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
  • Supervise students in/out-of-classroom activities during the assigned workday.
  • Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which he/she will be evaluated in accordance with district guidelines.
  • Conducts a follow-up of each information technology education program completer, within six months of his or her graduation.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Develops lesson plans and organizes daily classes so that modeling, demonstration, instruction, guided and independent practice can be completed within the allotted time. This statement supports the terminology used in our observation documents.
  • In-depth knowledge of the subject(s) to be taught.
  • Demonstrate considerable knowledge of the principles and methodologies of effective teaching.
  • Ability to deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports and effectively interact with students, other teachers, administrators, classified employees, and the public.
  • Strong Knowledgeable in the use of IT related equipment (hardware/software).
  • Understanding of and proficiency in grammar, usage, and mechanics and their integration in writing.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree and eligible for endorsement in specific business and information technology education teaching assignment.
  • Tuberculin Skin Test certifying that the individual is free of contagious tuberculosis.

 

LICENSE:

Eligible for or in possession of, appropriate Virginia Teaching Certificate.

 

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Potential above-average amount of walking, bending, standing, stooping and lifting in a laboratory-classroom.

 

HAZARDS:

Work involves exposure to potentially hazardous situations if safety procedures are unknown or unpracticed.

 

UNUSUAL DEMANDS:

Work is performed in laboratory-classroom, requiring unusual amount of physical skills, coordination, and dexterity.
